Views first, then beaches: Santorini’s caldera is at its most romantic early in the trip, and Mykonos is where you slow down. In July and August the meltemi wind can make the ferry crossing choppy, one more reason we prefer early summer and early fall.
The itinerary
Day by day
Day 1
Arrival on Santorini
Connect in Athens for the short flight to Santorini, where a driver takes you up to the caldera rim. Watch your first sunset from your own terrace.
Day 2
Around the Caldera by Catamaran
Keep the morning slow. In the afternoon, a catamaran sails around the caldera, with swim stops in quiet bays and at the warm volcanic springs, and dinner on deck as the sun goes down.
Day 3
The Rim and the Vineyards
Walk a stretch of the path along the caldera rim in the cool of the morning. After lunch, a guide takes you to wineries where the vines grow low to the volcanic soil, for tastings of Assyrtiko.
Day 4
Ferry to Mykonos
A high-speed ferry carries you north to Mykonos in two to three hours. Settle in, then walk to Little Venice for the sunset, with the windmills on the hill above.
Day 5
Delos
A short boat ride takes you to Delos, the sacred island of ancient Greece, where a guide leads you through its temples and mosaics in the morning, before the sun is high. The afternoon is for the pool.
Day 6
Beaches of the South Coast
Spend the day on the south-coast beaches, from lively beach clubs to quiet coves, then have a farewell dinner by the water in Mykonos Town.
Day 7
Home via Athens
A driver takes you to Mykonos airport for the short flight to Athens and your connection home.
